After cutting and grinding, plywood is fed to the automatic high-performance sorting line manufactured by Kostroma Engineering Plant “KOMZ” (Russia), where it is sorted by grades.
Sorting is the final stage of the technological process of plywood production. In accordance with GOST 3916.1-96, in the process of sorting each grade of plywood is defined in terms of the quality of wood, its defects and size, moisture content, bonding strength standards, rules of acceptance, measuring, etc.
A plywood grade is determined by the permitted wood defects of the veneer and its processing faults. Wood defects, manifested in plywood, include buds, tendrils, twigs, abnormal coloring, wormholes, germ pores, annual layer cutting, curly-grain, pitch pockets, pathological heartwood, spottiness, etc.; processing faults include hook cuts, dents, deformations, unsmooth clipping, marks, cracks, blisters, weak corners, glue leaks, rough edges, etc.
Bundles of plywood are covered with plates, wrapped with transversal and longitudinal straps and labelled.
